The function of awnings

They are one of the best options to protect certain spaces of your home from the harshness of the sun, rain, or snow. Additionally, these pieces provide a suitable environment for you to enjoy your gardens, windows, porch, or terraces, without worrying too much about the weather conditions.

However, there are some considerations to take into account before buying an awning for your home. The first, obviously, is the type of awning according to the space where you are going to install it.

In this regard, in the home materials market, you will find three types of awnings according to their functionality: Awnings for the garden where you will find a lot of variety, awnings for windows that are usually a little smaller, awnings for the porch that are quite large, and awnings for terraces that are usually the most necessary.

Types of awnings

1. Fixed or Stationary Awnings
A fixed awning is a welded frame that is permanently attached to a wall. These should not move and become a permanent addition to your home or business.

2. Retractable Awnings
A retractable awning also attaches to the home but can be opened or pulled back to provide as much or as little coverage as desired. Retractable awnings extend with motorized controls or manually with a crank.
They are divided based on the structure of the mechanism and are primarily three:
1. Without Cassette: The system rolls up the fabric leaving it exposed. The fabric is collected by means of a crank.

2. With Semicassette: The system has a box that, when the awning is retracted, protects both the structure and the fabric, but leaving out the final valance and the arms. It can be manual or motorized.

3. With Cassette: Here the mechanism completely engulfs the arms and the fabric forming a sealed unit.

4. Monobloc System Awning: This is a special system mainly intended for large-sized awnings that are widely used in the hospitality industry or to cover large terraces.

We enumerate three commonly available characteristics:

1. Motorization.
Motorized controls allow extension and retraction through a mechanical system. These are operated through a switch or with a remote control. It provides ease of deployment, which is very useful when dealing with large dimensions, making it the most popular feature.

2. Wind, Rain, and Sun Sensors.
These sensors will automatically extend or retract your awning, depending on the weather. Besides being convenient, this helps to keep the awning protected from the elements.

3. Weather Protection Covers.
An accessory for models mounted on the roof, a weather protection cover protects the first six to eight inches of the awning fabric, preserving its appearance and durability.

The best part is that retractable awnings practically disappear when not in use. Virtually all manufacturers already offer a model of this type.

Benefits at Home

• Greater Protection Against Solar Light:
Thanks to awnings for windows, bay windows, or terraces, you can stay in these spaces without the sun's rays being a nuisance.

• Regulation of Temperature Inside the Home:
Awnings allow us to keep our home cooler on hot days and also prevent cold air from penetrating inside the house to a certain extent.

• Energy Savings of Almost 80%:
The use of an air conditioner at home will not be as essential, which will be reflected as a considerable saving in your monthly bill.

Benefits for Gardens, Porches

• Just like awnings for windows and terraces, awnings for porches and gardens will effectively protect you from the sun's rays.

• They are a decorative element that beautifies the exteriors of your house, and you can combine them very well with the style you have chosen for your home.

• In the case of awnings for porches, your car will directly benefit as it will not remain under the sun's rays, nor will it be affected by snow or rain.

These are part of the architecture of our home that will bring us great benefits once installed. They are widely recommended not only for their functionality but also for their decorative capacity.

The best part is that you won't have to search too hard to find the awning that best suits your needs and, above all, your budget.
